A procedure that is used in the treatment of calcific tendinopathy. Most commonly used around the shoulder but other common areas include the tendons around the greater trochanter of the hip. This procedure aims to breaks down the calcifications present within a tendon and aspirates the calcium deposits with the use of a needle.
This procedure is typically done after other conservative management options have been tried first. The success of this procedure is typically dependant on the size and density of the deposits which we can usually see prior to intervention.
